The TKLLW Family Principles
Shawn Slusser

At work we learn the importance of defining clear principles for leading our teams but why not do the same for our families?
So, when my eldest son was five years old (he's now 25), my wife and I created a set of simple family principles called "TKLLW."
These became known as "something dad would always tell them" and what they should remember when dad's not with them. Simple enough for a five year old to remember:
- T = tell the Truth.
- K = be Kind to others.
- L = Learn something new, everyday.
- L = Laugh and have fun.
- W = Work hard to get what you want, nothing comes for free.
Over the past 20 years raising our three sons we made sure to always remind them of TKLLW. This was powerful in keeping them on the right track.
What are your family principles?
Do your children know them?
Leading your family is even more important than leading at work!
